Quarterly filing is here.
You've got a van and a phone.
TradeKit does the rest.
It keeps the books while you're on the tools - quotes, invoices, receipts, mileage and CIS - and files the quarterlies and the Final Declaration that replaces Self Assessment. On the phone in the van, on the laptop at the kitchen table.
Free for 30 days. No card. £10.99 a month after that, or £99.99 a year.

What it looks like
The app itself, not an illustration.
Four screens from the demo account. Pick one, or keep scrolling and the laptop follows the captions. Open the demo in your browser with sample data, nothing to install and no sign-up.
Swipe the phone or tap a screen name
Quotes and invoices
Priced on site, sent by WhatsApp or email, signed on the customer's phone. An accepted quote becomes the invoice in one tap.
The quarterly, built as you go
Every receipt and mile lands in the right quarter, so the update is a check, not a job. Q1 to Q4 and the final declaration, with the due date on each card.
CIS monthly returns
Nil returns included, with the £100 penalty dates in front of you, not in a letter. Subcontractor verification and payment and deduction statements sit on the same tab.
The same books on the laptop
One account, phone and desktop, synced when you are back on Wi-Fi. Today's jobs, what you are owed, and the days to the next filing on one screen.
The shape of your year
Four updates and a Final Declaration. That's the whole job.
Since 6 April 2026, sole traders turning over more than £50,000 keep digital records and send HMRC a quarterly update. £30,000+ joins in April 2027, £20,000+ in April 2028.
Scroll the year. Each update lights up as it comes round - and the one you're recording into right now is marked.

Replaces Self Assessment
Confirm the year, check the tax, send it. One screen, not a weekend.
Miss one and HMRC charges points-based late-submission penalties. TradeKit reminds you before every date above - and, separately, before every CIS monthly return, including nil returns.
What's in the kit
Everything you need. Nothing you don't.
No bloated accounting software, no per-feature add-ons. The tools that help you run a trade business, and the tax work handled underneath.

Filing direct to HMRC, from your phone
Quarterly updates, MTD VAT nine-box returns and your Final Declaration - over official HMRC OAuth, no copy-paste and no spreadsheets. Self-Employment, UK Property and Foreign Property all covered. MTD ready - recognised by HMRC for Making Tax Digital for Income Tax (reference D4K6ZS), connected to HMRC's live service.
Getting an HMRC letter? TradeKit walks you through sign-up - and no penalty points for missed quarterly updates in 2026/27.

CIS toolkit
Deductions, nil-return reminders, Payment & Deduction Statements, and subby due diligence with UTR and Companies House checks - a timestamped record of reasonable steps.
New
Snap a receipt, category sorted
TradeKit reads the amount, the shop, the date and what you bought, then picks the HMRC expense box for you - and says how sure it is. Materials, tools, van and travel, insurance: the right box, pre-filled. When a receipt could go two ways, it asks you instead of guessing. Screwfix-aware, VAT-aware. Never lose a receipt in the van again.
Bank statement import
Import a CSV or PDF statement from any UK bank. TradeKit categorises the merchants to HMRC expense boxes and matches incoming payments to your invoices.
New
Quotes signed on the spot
Send a link to the customer's phone. They read it, sign with a finger, tap accept. Binding e-signature with timestamp, IP and device. One tap turns it into an invoice.
New
Get paid by card, on the doorstep
Connect your own Stripe account and every invoice carries a Pay online link - on the PDF, in the reminder emails, in the WhatsApp message. The customer pays on their phone, the money goes straight to your Stripe account, and the invoice marks itself paid. TradeKit takes no cut.
Overdue chasers, automatically
Reminders go out at 3, 7 and 14 days with your bank details and the Pay online link on every invoice, so you're not the debt collector.
Jobs, profit and the diary
Every job from quote to payment, with live profit and margin on each one. Green means money, red means trouble. Drag a booking in the calendar to move it.
Gas certificates (CP12)
Scan the boiler plate to fill in make, model and GC number, sign on screen, send by WhatsApp. Gas Safety Records and Warning Notices issued from the doorstep.
Mileage at 55p
Log the trip, TradeKit works the relief and handles the 10,000-mile threshold. Capital allowances too - including the blended rate where your year straddles 6 April.
Free for them
Your accountant, built in
Invite your accountant to look at the books read-only - they see income, expenses, mileage and the SA103F breakdown, can ask you about any record and sign off each quarter, but can't change a thing unless you let them tidy expense categories, and can never submit for you or touch your bank and HMRC logins. One tap bundles the whole year into a CSV, a summary PDF and every receipt image. No per-seat fee, no year-end shoebox.
From the guides
The paperwork bits nobody explains properly.
Short, plain-English guides on the tax and admin side of working for yourself. Written for tradespeople, not accountants, and free to read whether you use TradeKit or not.
Filing is becoming the easy part - nearly every app on this list can send HMRC a return. What they can't do is quote the job, book it in, chase the invoice and tell you what you made on it. The nearest way to get both elsewhere is a job app on top of an accounting app - Tradify plus Sage comes to £492 a year, and the pair still can't do CIS statements, subby checks or gas certificates. TradeKit does the lot for £99.99. Where someone else does it better, we've said so.
Retail list prices excluding VAT - never promotional discounts. Checked July–August 2026.

* FreeAgent's sole trader plan is £190/year billed annually (£19/month monthly), and free for NatWest, RBS, Ulster Bank and Mettle business account customers.
‡ Coconut's £99.99 Bookkeeping plan needs a £45 MTD Annual Submission add-on to file a year-end declaration; the £49.99 Bridging tier is for spreadsheet users.
¶ Sage Sole Trader, £7/month list price. MTD VAT needs the £20/month Start tier. Contractor CIS (subbie verification, CIS300 monthly returns, deduction statements) needs Sage Accounting Standard at around £470/year - Sage's own guidance says Sole Trader isn't suitable for CIS contractors. Verified against Sage's published tiers and knowledge base, 17 August 2026.
** Tradify plus Sage is the two subscriptions added together at list price: Tradify £408/year for job management, plus Sage Sole Trader £84/year for the accounts and filing. Each cell shows the better of the two.
† TradeKit is MTD ready - recognised by HMRC for Making Tax Digital for Income Tax (reference D4K6ZS) and connected to HMRC's live service. MTD VAT filing is built and HMRC-tested.
§ TradeKit imports bank transactions from CSV and PDF statements. It is not a live Open Banking feed.

Straight answers
Do I need to be VAT registered?
No. TradeKit works for any UK sole trader, registered or not, and you can switch VAT on or off per quote. Most tradespeople under the £90,000 threshold aren't registered, and that's fine.
What happens when the 30 days are up?
Your data stays exactly where it is. You just can't add new entries or sync across devices until you subscribe. No nagging pop-ups, no countdown in your face - upgrade when it's earning its keep.
Does this replace my accountant?
For a straightforward sole trader return, it can - TradeKit handles the quarterly updates, the expense records and the Final Declaration. If you've got partnerships, a limited company or capital gains in the mix, keep your accountant. TradeKit makes their job easier and cheaper: invite them in free - read-only unless you say otherwise, with sign-off and questions built in.
I'm an accountant - can I put my clients on TradeKit?
Yes. Your accountant login is free, and from the portal you can invite clients by email: they sign up, start their own 30-day trial, and you get access to their books the moment they accept - live figures, filing history, per-record questions, quarterly sign-off and a one-file handover pack per client. Read-only by default; clients can let you tidy expense categories. Clients keep control of their data and can remove your access at any time. Create your free accountant login to get started.
Is my data safe?
Your records sit on Google Firebase with data hosted in the UK. HMRC tokens and your National Insurance number are encrypted with AES-256-GCM. Payments run through Stripe - we never see your card. We're ICO registered (ZC161051), we don't sell data to anyone, and you can export or delete the lot whenever you like.
Can TradeKit file to HMRC right now?
Yes. TradeKit is MTD ready - recognised by HMRC for Making Tax Digital for Income Tax (reference D4K6ZS), and it is connected to HMRC's live service. Sign in with your Government Gateway inside the app and your quarterly updates and Final Declaration go straight to HMRC.
Can my customers pay by card?
Yes. Connect your own Stripe account in Settings and every invoice gets a Pay online link. Your customer pays on Stripe's secure page, the money goes to your Stripe account and then your bank on Stripe's normal payout schedule, and TradeKit marks the invoice paid and stops the reminders. TradeKit never holds the money and takes no fee; Stripe's standard card fee applies. Prefer bank transfer? Nothing changes - your bank details still print on every invoice.
Does it connect to my bank account?
Not as a live feed. You import a CSV or PDF statement from any UK bank and TradeKit categorises it and matches payments to invoices. A live Open Banking connection needs FCA authorisation, and we won't ship one until that's properly in place.
Get set up
Set up in an evening. Carry on working the way you always have.
Put your jobs in, snap your receipts, log your miles. When the quarter's up, TradeKit's already got the numbers - and HMRC gets what it's owed without you losing a Sunday to it.
