Working out your filing dates…

Quarterly filing is here.
You've got a van and a phone.
TradeKit™ does the rest.

It keeps the books while you're on the tools - quotes, invoices, receipts, mileage and CIS - then files it to HMRC when the quarter's up. On the phone in the van, on the laptop at the kitchen table.

Free for 30 days. No card. £99.99 a year after that.

The shape of your year

Four updates and a Final Declaration. That's the whole job.

Since 6 April 2026, sole traders turning over more than £50,000 keep digital records and send HMRC a quarterly update. £30,000+ joins in April 2027, £20,000+ in April 2028.

Scroll the year. Each update lights up as it comes round - and the one you're recording into right now is marked.

    Replaces Self Assessment

Confirm the year, check the tax, send it. One screen, not a weekend.

Miss one and HMRC charges points-based late-submission penalties. TradeKit reminds you before every date above - and, separately, before every CIS monthly return, including nil returns.

What's in the kit

Everything you need. Nothing you don't.

No bloated accounting software, no per-feature add-ons. The tools that help you run a trade business, and the tax work handled underneath.

MTD ITSA · VAT · CIS

Filing direct to HMRC, from your phone

Quarterly updates, MTD VAT nine-box returns and your Final Declaration - over official HMRC OAuth, no copy-paste and no spreadsheets. Self-Employment, UK Property and Foreign Property all covered. Built and HMRC-tested; filing switches on as our HMRC recognition completes.

CIS toolkit

Deductions, nil-return reminders, Payment & Deduction Statements, and subby due diligence with UTR and Companies House checks - a timestamped record of reasonable steps.

Snap a receipt

TradeKit reads the amount, the shop and the date, then drops it in the right HMRC box. Screwfix-aware, VAT-aware. Never lose a receipt in the van again.

Bank statement import

Import a CSV or PDF statement from any UK bank. TradeKit categorises the merchants to HMRC expense boxes and matches incoming payments to your invoices.

New

Quotes signed on the spot

Send a link to the customer's phone. They read it, sign with a finger, tap accept. Binding e-signature with timestamp, IP and device. One tap turns it into an invoice.

New

Pay Now on invoices

Card, Apple Pay and Google Pay links on every invoice, straight to your bank. Overdue chasers go out at 3, 7 and 14 days so you're not the debt collector.

Jobs, profit and the diary

Every job from quote to payment, with live profit and margin on each one. Green means money, red means trouble. Drag a booking in the calendar to move it.

Gas certificates (CP12)

Scan the boiler plate to fill in make, model and GC number, sign on screen, send by WhatsApp. Gas Safety Records and Warning Notices issued from the doorstep.

Mileage at 55p

Log the trip, TradeKit works the relief and handles the 10,000-mile threshold. Capital allowances too - including the blended rate where your year straddles 6 April.

Free for them

Your accountant, built in

Invite your accountant to look at the books read-only - they see income, expenses, mileage and the SA103F breakdown, but can't edit anything or touch your bank and HMRC logins. One tap bundles the whole year into a CSV, a summary PDF and every receipt image. No per-seat fee, no year-end shoebox.

From the guides

The paperwork bits nobody explains properly.

Short, plain-English guides on the tax and admin side of working for yourself. Written for tradespeople, not accountants, and free to read whether you use TradeKit or not.

* FreeAgent's sole trader plan is £190/year billed annually (£19/month monthly), and free for NatWest, RBS, Ulster Bank and Mettle business account customers. Coconut's £99.99 Bookkeeping plan needs a £45 MTD Annual Submission add-on to file a year-end declaration; the £49.99 Bridging tier is for spreadsheet users. TradeKit's MTD ITSA and VAT filing are built and HMRC-tested; they switch on when HMRC issues production credentials. TradeKit is not advertised as HMRC-recognised software. § TradeKit imports bank transactions from CSV and PDF statements. It is not a live Open Banking feed. Straight answers

Do I need to be VAT registered?
No. TradeKit works for any UK sole trader, registered or not, and you can switch VAT on or off per quote. Most tradespeople under the £90,000 threshold aren't registered, and that's fine.
What happens when the 30 days are up?
Your data stays exactly where it is. You just can't add new entries or sync across devices until you subscribe. No nagging pop-ups, no countdown in your face - upgrade when it's earning its keep.
Does this replace my accountant?
For a straightforward sole trader return, it can - TradeKit handles the quarterly updates, the expense records and the Final Declaration. If you've got partnerships, a limited company or capital gains in the mix, keep your accountant. TradeKit makes their job easier and cheaper: invite them in read-only, free.
Is my data safe?
Your records sit on Google Firebase with data hosted in the UK. HMRC tokens and your National Insurance number are encrypted with AES-256-GCM. Payments run through Stripe - we never see your card. We're ICO registered (ZC161051), we don't sell data to anyone, and you can export or delete the lot whenever you like.
Can TradeKit file to HMRC right now?
The filing is built and tested against HMRC's systems, and it switches on when HMRC issues our production credentials. Until then you're keeping fully compliant digital records - nothing to redo when it goes live. We're not advertising TradeKit as HMRC-recognised software until it's on that list.
Does it connect to my bank account?
Not as a live feed. You import a CSV or PDF statement from any UK bank and TradeKit categorises it and matches payments to invoices. A live Open Banking connection needs FCA authorisation, and we won't ship one until that's properly in place.
